Become a Trustee at SEEN

SEEN provides a safe space to support those facing unplanned pregnancy and baby loss. We also deliver healthy relationship and sex education through our work in prisons and schools.

We are a small charity based in Twickenham with a team of 8 part time staff, 15 volunteers, and (currently) 5 trustees. We support residents from the London boroughs of Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow.

Our Ethos

Founded in 1999 by members of St Stephen’s Church, our objective has always been to offer non-judgemental, unbiased support. We are not a campaigning organisation. Respect for the client is central to our values and our approach is always person centred.

Our listeners and educators are trained to reflect our ethos and work in a way that is sensitive and appropriate to the client’s culture and beliefs. As a faith-based organisation, we believe this approach reflects the values of Christ, and we seek to express our Christian faith by serving others in this way.

Who are we looking for?

We want a board of Trustees who have a heart and vision for developing the work of our charity. There are no specific qualifications needed, but we are especially interested in meeting individuals with any of the following skills, attributes and experiences. These may have been gained through your career, volunteering, or lived experience:

  • An understanding of the impact that crisis pregnancy or pregnancy loss can have on mental and emotional wellbeing.
  • Knowledge or experience in the Health sector.
  • Training or experience in Counselling or Therapy.
  • Experience in Communications, Marketing or Social Media.
  • An understanding of charity governance and finance.
  • Experience or knowledge of HR policies and processes.

Our current board has a majority of male Trustees, so we are particularly interested in speaking with female applicants interested in joining us, but this is not essential.  As a faith-based charity we are looking for Trustees with a Christian faith, since this is integral to our vision and ethos.

Time Commitment

The board meets formally every 2 months.  As a small charity, our Trustees are hands-on and involved in supporting the day-to-day running of the charity to some extent. There is some email correspondence between meetings, and occasional informal meet-ups with staff or other trustees.

Next steps

Interested applicants are invited to have an informal conversation with our Chair as a first step, and will be offered the opportunity to meet with other staff and trustees as part of our recruitment process.

Those interested in applying for the role will be asked to complete a short application form and attend an interview with members of the Board of Trustees.
